Cystic lesion in pancreas can be both cancerous and non cancerous. To confirm the type of cystic lesion, best investigations are CT scan or MRI of abdomen.
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is also helpful in diagnosis of the type of cystic lesion of pancreas.
The patient presents with pain abdomen, nausea , vomiting , sometimes with loss of appetite, weight loss or jaundice.
The best treatment depends on type of lesion. For cancreous lesion, the treatment of choice is surgery and for non cancreous lesion, the treatment depends on size, symptoms and the associated risk of becoming a cancer in the future.
